Gather around the Grill

With Thanksgiving right around the corner many families may be wondering how they’re going to prepare the family feast with only so much oven space and not enough time. Luckily this isn’t something that you have to worry about because you have your Cal Flame grill!

While grilling may not be the traditional way to prepare the Thanksgiving turkey, it is certainly one of the best! Not only will grilling your turkey help save the dilemma of not having enough oven space, it will also give you one juicy and tender bird! Not only that, if you place a metal pan underneath the turkey, the turkey drippings can be transformed into delicious gravy. Need we say more?

What you’ll need:

  1. 12lb whole turkey
  2. 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  3. 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  4. Salt & pepper to taste

How to prepare:

  1. Prep the grill for indirect medium-high heat.
  2. Rinse and pat dry the turkey. Turn the wings back to hold the neck skin in place. Put the turkey legs to tucked position. Brush with oil. Season inside and out with the salt, pepper, and Italian seasonings.
  3. Place the turkey breast side up on a large roasting pan onside a metal grate. Grill for 2 – 3 hours, making sure that the internal thigh temperature of the turkey has reached 180 degrees F or 85 degrees C. Remove the turkey from the grill and let sit for 15 minutes before carving into.

Note: If you wish to make gravy from the turkey drippings mix in ½ cup of water to the pan and add additional water as necessary to avoid the drippings being scorched. Remove the pan 30 minutes before turkey is finished cooking.

Tip: If you use aluminum foil to cover the turkey it can help cook it evenly, keep food moist, and make clean-up easier.
